Google to Open Research Center in Michigan: Reports

Google Inc. will open an office and research center in Michigan, according to reports. The new facility, which will be based in Ann Arbor, should employ up to 1,000 workers within five years.

The Mountain View, CA-based company will also locate its AdWords unit in Ann Arbor, according to reports.

While details of the incentive package that lured Google to the Wolverine State were not released, one published account said that Michigan Governor Jennifer Graham acknowledge the company had been given tax breaks.

That’s probably not the only reason the company chose Michigan: Co-founder Larry Page is a graduate of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, and has maintained close ties with the school, according to Reuters.
