Google Dominates Search in April

Figures released by Nielsen//NetRatings on Monday indicate that to no one’s surprise, Google is tops in the search market once again, and the competition is very far behind.

With over 3.77 billion queries in April, Google garnered 55.2% of all searches in April, representing a year-over-year growth of 42.1%.

Yahoo! ranked a distant second with 1.50 billion queries in April, or 21.9% of the search market. This represents a year-over-year growth of 28.1%.

MSN/Windows Live Search fell into the third slot with 612.5 million queries in April, or 9.0% of the market. This shows a year-over-year growth of 7.4%.

AOL Search took the fourth spot with 371.0 million searches in April, which was 5.4% of the market. For the Time Warner arm, this represents a year-over-year growth of 6.1%.

Ask.com was fifth, taking care of 126.3 million queries in April, or 1.8% of the market. This figure represents a year-over-year shrinkage of 2.3%.

My Web Search, Comcast Search, EarthLink Search, Dogpile.com Search, and My Way Search filled out the top 10 list, in that order. These bottom five search providers represent a measly 2.7% of the market, according to Nielsen//NetRatings.

Search engine rankings released by Nielsen//NetRatings differ from those released by comScore qSearch, though the top three are ranked in the same order.
