Geoff Smith has been hired as director of direct marketing at SOMC Group Inc., which sells software through direct marketing.
SOMC is a member-based distributor of home computer software in the United States. One specialty of the company is children’s educational software, which it sells through continuity programs. The company’s clubs include Software of the Month Club, Jellybean Island, Ready, Set, Grow and Kids Korner and Learning Library.
Carlsbad, CA-based SOMC markets the clubs, along with non-continuity software for adults by direct mail, telemarketing and e-mail.
Smith, who started his new job on Aug. 1, had been vice president of online services at ClickAction, an e-mail marketing service provider in Palo Alto, CA. Before that he was director of client programs.
Smith had worked at ClickAction for four and a half years. ClickAction was acquired by InfoUSA in December 2002 and then combined with Yesmail, another e-mail company InfoUSA bought.
