GameStop, the online marketer and retailer of video games, will acquire French video game retailer Micromania for $700 million.
The deal , which includes the assumption of debt, is subject to clearance by the European Commission and is expected to close next month.
GameStop, which operates the commercial sites GameStop.com and EBgames.com and currently has no stores in France, will operate 5,889 locations worldwide in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. With the Micromania acquisition, the European store count will top 1,077 stores located throughout France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Spain and Portugal.
