Frito-Lay CMO Stephen Quinn Heads to Wal-Mart

Stephen Quinn, the chief marketing officer for Frito-Lay, Inc. North America, has resigned his post to become the senior VP-marketing at Wal-Mart. His new position begins Sept. 12.

At Wal-Mart, he will be responsible for marketing strategy, planning, finance, research and brand development. He will report to Executive VP and CMO John Fleming.

Employees at Frito-Lay were notified of his resignation yesterday through an internal e-mail.

Quinn joined Frito-Lay, a unit of PepsiCo, in 1992 as the head of the marketing department at Frito-Lay Canada. In 2003, he became head of marketing at Frito-Lay. He was responsible for all aspects of marketing of Lay’s, Doritos, Cheetos, Tostitos and Frito-Lay’s portfolio of salty snacks and dips.

In March, Wal-Mart Stores named Fleming to replace chief marketing officer Bob Connolly, who retired.
