FOUR CONVICTED IN MCSCANDAL

Four men were convicted last week for fraudulently redeeming McDonald’s game pieces in a scheme led Jerome Jacobson when he was security director at Simon Marketing. A fifth man was acquitted, per Associated Press reports. The convictions of conspiracy to commit mail fraud brings a maximum sentence of five years in prison and $250,000. Defense attorneys argued that the defendants didn’t know the winning game pieces had been stolen; Jacobson earlier testified that defendants were told the actual winner was in a divorce suit and didn’t want his wife to share the winnings (Aug. 27 XTRA). Another two dozen arrests are expected, AP reports; 51 people have pled guilty since the case broke last August.
