Former Sephora Marketing Exec Gets Prison Time

A former marketing director for the Sephora cosmetics chain has been sentenced to two-to-six years in prison for stealing more than $500,000 from the company while working on promotion and direct marketing campaigns.

Judith Ashley Roberts, 35, had been accused of falsely billing Sephora for photography for promotions and catalogs. She is alleged to have stolen the money between July 2000 and November 2001 by forging her boss’ signature to approve payments of at least $508,000. She then deposited the payments into an account she controlled, according to news reports.

Roberts had only been working at the Manhattan headquarters for several months when she began the scam. The plot was discovered after marketing projects were found to be over budget.
