Ford Motor Co. is putting gas caps branded with the BP logo on all 2006 cars, pickups and SUVs sold in the U.S., marking the first time one of the Big Three automakers recommended a specific energy brand’s fuel.
Nearly 3 million Ford products in the U.S. will feature fuel caps with “Ford recommends BP” and the BP helios logo. Early joint efforts for the Ford/BP filler cap initiative in Europe have been very successful, and have paved the way for the current launch in the U.S., Ford said.
BP, which owns the Amoco line of gasoline, has worked with Ford in the past on promotions that planted Ford vehicles at BP stations, including a sweepstakes last year that rewarded a Ford Escape hybrid vehicle as the grand prize. The two brands are scheduled to run a sweepstakes this summer with a Ford Five Hundred as the grand prize.
