Firefox Continuing Its Climb

Apple’s Safari Web browser might be getting a lot of attention nowadays thanks to its presence in the hugely anticipated iPhone, but everyone knows that Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Mozilla’s Firefox browsers are still the ones to beat. Recent numbers released by OneStat seem to indicate that IE is continuing to lose ground to Firefox in most markets around the world.

According to OneStat, Microsoft’s IE has a hold on just under 85% of the worldwide browser market in June. Mozilla’s Firefox Web browser controlled 12.7% of the market, showing an increase from the 11.7% worldwide market share it held in January.

Firefox is doing especially well in the U.S. where the browser has gained 3.5% over the past six months, giving it 19.65% of the American market.

Most IE users, or about 56% of them, indicated that they still use IE 6, while 28% say they are using IE 7.

W3Counter shows figures that paint a rosier picture for Firefox. According to the Web tracker, 25.08% of Web users worldwide utilize the browser as of June 30. W3Counter’s numbers show that about 66.2% of the world’s Web users use IE.
