NASCAR marketing executive Brian Corcoran has been named executive vice president of business development and motorsports for the Fenway Sport Group.
Corcoran had been NASCAR’s managing director of corporate marketing for the past six years. In his new post, he will oversee the daily operations in FSG’s NASCAR division, which comprises Roush Fenway Racing and Yates Racing.
Corcoran played a key role in bringing Nextel Communications in as title sponsor of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, and making Nationwide Insurance lead sponsor of NASCAR’s secondary circuit.
FSG bought a 50% stake last year in Roush Racing, one of NASCAR’s most successful teams, to form Roush Fenway Racing. Three Roush drivers, Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth are contenders in NASCAR’s Chase for the Cup this season.
Corcoran’s mission, as he sees it is “to continue to fuel the teams with blue-ship sponsors to continue our quest for championships.” He also aims to build value for Fenway Roush’s existing sponsors and identify strategic areas for growth.
Corcoran views multimedia as an area where Fenway Roush hasn’t yet maximized value.
“One thing that is under-leveraged is a digital media strategy to connect us with our fan base,” he said, indicating that FSG may seek to improve that connection by producing video content online.
Prior to joining NASCAR, Corcoran was vice president of team, league and venue services for SFX Sports. Before SFX, he was sponsorship sales senior account executive for CBS Sports’ New England Patriots property.
