Federated Department Stores Inc. reported total sales of $1.4 billion for the five weeks ended Oct. 4, up 3% from $1.314 billion last year.
For the year to date, the parent company of macys.com and Bloomingdale’s by Mail reported sales of $9.2 billion, off 2% from $9.3 billion last year.
“We were especially encouraged by the strength of apparel sales across the company in September,” said Terry Lundgren, CEO of the Cincinnati-based company. “It remains to be seen whether this sales trend is permanent or if it reflects sales taken from October and the fourth quarter.”
