Online auctioneer, eBay Inc., San Jose, CA, has named Brian Swette to the new post of COO, freeing president and CEO Meg Whitman to focus on the company’s expansion.
Swette will oversee the U.S. site as well as the company’s regional sites, user services and customer support. He had been senior vice president of marketing and general manager of eBay U.S.
Whitman is expected to concentrate on eBay’s mission and strategy. The company’s sales almost tripled from year-earlier levels in the first three quarters of this year to $151 million.
The company also promoted Steve Westly to senior vice president and general manager of international and premium services. He will oversee the Great Collections, Butterfield & Butterfield Auctioneers Corp. and international expansion.
