DoubleClick has confirmed that it cut a number of positions in its media division on Wednesday because of the soft ad market.
Spokesperson Jennifer Blum would not confirm the number of employees laid off in the 90-member media group. But unnamed sources said 20 people were asked to go.
A DoubleClick statement said the layoffs are part of the company’s plan to be profitable for the full-year 2002 by cutting expenses and running businesses more efficiently. “The steps we took yesterday in our media division are absolutely in line with that commitment,” said the statement.
The Internet advertising company, based in New York, said it would trim expenses when it released its third-quarter financial statement last week. The company reported a net loss of $12.6 million for the quarter ended Sept. 30.
