The Direct Marketing Educational Foundation raised $300,000 for DM training last month during its annual dinner. Some of the money was contributed by companies; the rest came from an auction of contributed products and services. Several firms promised to fund $5,000 scholarships.
In another highlight from the event, Direct columnist Katie Muldoon received the Edward N. Mayer award for her strategic leadership. “She has few equals in our industry, or any industry,” said Liz Kislik, principal of Liz Kislik Associates.
America Online received the DMEF’s Corporate Leadership award. And Bob Hemmings, president of Hemmings IV Direct, who conducted the auction, was given a surprise Lifetime Achievement award. The three DMEF co-chairs are Claire Brand of Hallmark, Garry Myers of Highlights for Children and Kislik.
