Denny’s Pairs Down Finalists in ‘Vote for Real’ Contest

The nominations for the best impersonation of a presidential candidate are in, and Denny’s is asking the public to choose their favorite in an online vote.

People can cast their vote for the six finalists in Denny’s “America Votes for Real” contest at www.vote4real.com through Aug. 22. The promotion, which concluded July 31, asked people who look like, sound like, or vaguely resemble presidential hopefuls Arizona Sen. John McCain and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama to make a short video talking about “real breakfast,” Denny’s full service, made-to-order, prepared fresh experience.

The finalists are Jeff Anderson of Charlotte, NC, Iman Crosson, of New York City, Lewis Heaney of Orange, CA, Pete Peterkin of Los Angeles, David Siegel of New York City and Mark Wooster of San Diego, CA. In all, 15 videos were submitted for the contest.

The top vote getter will earn the coveted title of “best presidential poser” and receive a free monthly meal at Denny’s through the next presidential election in 2012 in the form of Denny’s gift cards.

People can also enter a separate sweepstakes atwww.vote4real.com for a chance to win a trip for two to Washington, D.C. in January 2009 to be part of the presidential inauguration festivities. Online marketing supports the effort, which runs through Nov. 4.

This contest was part of Denny’s ongoing “Vote for Real” campaign, a component of its “Don’t Fall for Fake” initiative that attempts to persuade people to have a real breakfast at its restaurants. The company launched the effort this spring using an election-themed campaign, playing off the presidential election, with guerrilla marketing tactics, PR, TV spots and in-store activities.
