Dell Computer Corp. reported its profits fell in the third quarter, but the No. 1 computer direct marketer continues its war for market share.
Net income for the fiscal 2002 quarter ended Nov. 2 fell 36% to $429 million. In the same period a year ago, net income was $674 million.
The Round Rock, Texas-based company reported it is the leader in market share for servers, and extended its position as the No. 1 supplier of personal workstations. The company’s share for notebook computers reached 15%. The overall PC market is shrinking however, analysts said, but Dell’s management model remains strong.
Dell forecasts little improvement from holiday shopping in the fourth quarter.
