A convicted mail fraud artist has created a Web site devoted to telling executives how not to be bilked by telemarketers.
Edward Tunick, a Philadelphia-based marketer, has also produced an eight-minute videotape on deceptive telemarketing.
Tunick has been convicted of nine-counts of mail fraud, and is awaiting sentencing. According to an announcement on PRNewswire, the Philadelphia businessman hopes to “atone for his actions.”
The Web site (www.stoptelemarketingfraud.com) defines telemarketing fraud, and offers tips on how to avoid being taken. It also reports on fraudulent companies.
Some telemarketers misquote product prices and send unsolicited goods, according to Tunick, whose company sold lighting and janitorial supplies, and engaged in these practices for twelve years. This ended when the firm was raided by the FBI.
