Consumers Have Doubts About Insuring Direct

Insurance agents can feel secure. A new survey about consumer attitudes towards insurance by Baltimore-based Vertis found that 61% of those surveyed would not buy any type of insurance direct from the insurance company, either online, via direct mail or over the phone.

Only one in four respondents (25 %) would consider purchasing auto insurance directly. That figure dropped to 16% for health insurance and 15% for life insurance.

The survey also showed that adults who purchased life insurance due to a life event such as marriage are more likely to respond to direct mail that they read in the past 30 days.

Vertis’ Customer Focus survey, conducted by Marshall Marketing and Communication of Pittsburgh, polled 2,000 adults on both the insurance industry and other market segments.
