Global growth of self-checkout technology in retail stores is being fueled in large part by consumer demand, said . a study conducted for cash register manufacturer NCR Corp.
According to the survey conducted by global market intelligence and advisory firm, IDC, nearly 70% of consumers in five different countries said they would be likely to use self-checkout.
In the U.S., consumers said they would be as likely to use self-checkout as they would other popular self-service technologies such as pay-at-the-pump.
The survey polled 5,000 consumers across the U.S., U.K., Germany, Italy and Australia in May.
