ClickAction Trims Net Loss as Revenue Falls

ClickAction Inc. reported first quarter 2002 revenue of $2.2 million, compared with $5.3 million a year ago. But the company’s net loss narrowed as well, from $2.6 million to just over $1 million. The quarter ended March 31.

A year ago the company’s net loss was inflated by a $2.2 million loss from discontinued operations. Its first quarter 2002 loss was similarly affected by a $240,000 claims settlement. The company’s operating loss grew from $378,000 a year ago to $1 million during the quarter just ended.

During the quarter the company also adopted a subscription revenue recognition model that caused its deferred revenue to rise from $100,000 to $857,000. Under the new system most revenue is now realized toward the end of its contacts. The company said that it expected to operate on a break-even basis by the end of the year.
