Chico’s FAS Inc. posted net sales for the second quarter ended July 30 of $343 million, a 34.6% increase from the $255 million reported for the same period last year.
For the six-month period, net sales increased 31.0% to $670 million from $512 million for the first half of 2004.
Combined catalog and Internet sales for the second quarter were $7.03 million, compared to $6.3 million during the period last year. For the first 26 weeks of the fiscal year, direct sales were $14.9 million, versus $12.4 million during the same portion of 2004.
The Fort Myers, FL-based women’s clothing retailer and cataloger plans to open approximately 20% net new square footage combined for the Chico’s and White House | Black Market brands in fiscal 2006, taking into account approximately 105 to 120 net new company-owned stores and increased square footage from 30-40 relocations and/or expansions.
Sixty percent of these new stores are expected to be under the Chico’s brand, with the balance being White House | Black Market stores. In addition, the company also plans to open 20 new Soma by Chico’s stores during fiscal 2006.
