Charity Oversight Organizations to Merge

The National Charities Information Bureau (NCIB) has signed a letter of intent to merge with the Council of Better Business Bureaus’ Foundation (CBBBF), which coordinates the Philanthropic Advisory Service. The merger, which should be completed within the next few months, will require formal approval by the New York Supreme Court and the District of Columbia.

The merger will eliminate duplicated evaluation efforts on the parts of both companies, while allowing them to take advantage of economies of scale and enabling them to initiate new programs.

The operations of the NCIB, which is currently based in New York, will be joined with the facilities of the CBBBF in Arlington, VA. The organization will then select a new name for the resulting entity, and members of both groups will select new directors, likely including NCIB board members, nonprofit sector representatives and BBB system constituents.
