Sharper Image Corp., San Francisco, had a 3% uptick in first-quarter revenue, from $39.8 million to $40.9 million. Most of the increase, however, came from increases in store sales, which jumped 10% (6% for comparable stores) and the Internet, which increased 348%, from $520,000 to $2.3 million. The company’s net loss for the quarter shrunk from $2.2 million to $1.7 million.
Catalog sales fell 27%, from $12.2 million to $8.9 million, and the company announced that it would not make any further test mailings of the Sharper Image Home Collection catalog.
