Catalog Acquisition Helps KarlstadtQuelle Sales Rise 59%

KarstadtQuelle AG, the German cataloger and retailer, said its total 1999 sales rose 59% for 1999 to 33.45 billion marks ($17.2 billion) from 20.97 billion the year before, thanks to its $1.4 billion acquisition of cataloger Quelle, according to wire service reports.

Revenue at Quelle grew from the 0.9% to 12.1 billion marks, while sales at the company’s own Neckermann mail-order and travel unit rose 3.7% to 4.5 billion marks. The company’s online business posted a 36% rise in sales of 214 million marks.
