Canon Focuses on Art Gallery Events

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Canon USA has set up shop in two modern-art galleries to tout its new Power Shot digital cameras.

The effort, dubbed “True Originals,” showcases Power Shot cameras and printers in kiosks in the museums. Models with cameras circulate, offering to take artistic photos of gallery-goers, who get to take their portraits home. (Consumers also can take pictures themselves, to bring home.)

True Originals runs through mid-January in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (through Dec. 6, and again in January) and Gen Art in Miami (Dec. 2-12). Canon also attends events in each gallery, such as LACMA’s Friday night jazz concerts, throughout the effort. Canon may expand to other museums. Regatta, New York City, handles.

“Canon had been doing some events and wanted to get into a non-traditional environment,” says Regatta Principal Sam Kaufman. “Given the strong design sense of the camera, museums were a natural fit.”
