A Canadian telemarketing do-not-call list moved closer to reality this week as the country’s regulatory authorities put forth rules governing the creation and operation of the list.
The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) also said it plans to issue a request for proposal later this month to solicit bids from parties interested in running the list.
The list will be implemented once a provider is found, said the CRTC.
Last year, the CRTC began soliciting public comments from people who don’t want to receive unsolicited telemarketing calls. That stemmed from an act passed by the Canadian Parliament in 2004 that called for the establishment of a do-not-call registry similar to the one in place in the U.S. (Direct Newsline, Feb. 22, 2006).
