Bookspan Streamlines PIP Programs

Bookspan is consolidating its fulfillment at one facility and in the process, streamlining its book-of-the-month club package insert programs (PIP).

Eight PIPs will be consolidated into six PIPs, Cindy Karamitis, director of list marketing for Bookspan said.

As of Oct. 1 the programs will be:

* General Interest PIP and General Intro PIP: Comprising Bookspan Garden City PIP (Double Day Book Club, Literary Guild, Black Expression, Double Day Large Print, Military Book Club, Mystery Guild, Rhapsody Book Club, Science Fiction Book Club, Stage and Screen), plus Bookspan NY Adult PIP (Book-of-the-Month Club, Quality Paperbacks, One Spirit).

* Families PIP and Families Intro PIP: Comprising Children’s Book-of-the-Month Club and Crossings (Christian book club).

* Lifestyle PIP and Lifestyle Intro PIP: Comprising Good Cooks, Crafters Choice and Country Homes and Gardens, formerly Better Homes and Gardens PIP.

The firm is also making some changes among its list management firms effective Oct. 1.

Both General Interest PIP and General Intro PIP will be managed by Fred Singer Direct Marketing Inc., Scarsdale, NY. (Singer already manages Bookspan Garden City. Direct Media Inc., Greenwich, CT, is the current manager of Bookspan NY Adult PIP).

The Double Day Select PIP of primarily professional book clubs (not affected by the consolidation) will remain at Direct Media Inc.

New York-based Bookspan is moving fulfillment from its Mechanicsburg, PA-based facility to its existing Hanover, PA site.
