The Australian Labor Party has pledged to introduce a national “do not call” list in the country, according to wire service reports.
This move comes amid rising public anger as the government negotiates with the telemarketing industry over curbs on unsolicited calls.
Under the party’s proposal, people could register their phone numbers on a list managed by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. Telemarketers that rang numbers on the do-not-call list would face fines of up to $10,000.
