AOL to Sponsor Super Bowl Halftime Show in $7.5 Million Spend

For the first time, America Online will sponsor the Super Bowl halftime show.

The deal, which includes teasers and other promotional mentions of AOL, will cost the Internet service provider about $7.5 million. In comparison, CBS is reportedly charging advertisers $2.4 million for 30 second spots, according to Reuters. The game airs Feb. 1.

The sponsorship follows an August deal with the NFL, which offers pro football highlights to AOL broadband users.

AOL is also planning “the ultimate Super Bowl experience” online, including celebrity content and footage of team owner parties. Additionally, www.AOL.com will stream all of the commercials airing during the Super Bowl, an event that generated 5.6 million hits last year. Television spots support.
