Amazon.com president and chief operating officer Joe Galli has joined VerticalNet as president and chief executive officer, replacing Mark Walsh at VerticalNet. Walsh has been named the business-to-business firm’s chairman.
Amazon.com founder and chief executive officer Jeff Bezos will re-assume the position of Seattle-based Amazon’s president.
By making this move, Galli turns from the Web-based consumer goods industry to the online B-to-B arena. Horsham, PA-based VerticalNet provides 57 industry-specific Web sites that provide information and e-commerce capabilities.
Galli had been with Amazon for just over a year. He came to the online retailer from Black & Decker, where he was president of the global power tools and accessories division.
