Alaska Proposes Further Phone Restrictions

The Alaska state legislature has proposed restricting telemarketing even more than the federal government, according to the Juneau Empire.

House Bill 15, sponsored by state Rep. Bud Fate, R-Fairbanks, would close loopholes in the federal do-not-call law by establishing a registry for Alaska telemarketing firms making calls within the state.

Fate said that Federal law applies only to telemarketing firms calling from one state to another.

The Alaska bill requires telemarketers to identify themselves as such before making their pitch.
