A Need For Speed

Rapp Collins Worldwide, New York City, tapped Malcolm Speed as chairman and chief executive officer, filling the slot vacated last year with the departure of Steven Dapper. Speed was executive vp and partner at Bronner Slosberg Humphrey, Boston, where he managed such clients as General Motors, FedEx Corp., and IBM Corp.

Noting that the direct marketing arena is experiencing robust expansion, parent Omnicom Group Diversified Agency Services ceo Thomas Harrison said that Speed will “enhance our strategic support for clients in the areas of brand development, service innovation, and customer loyalty.”

Edward McNally, RCW president and chief operating officer, will continue to run the company’s day-to-day business and report to Speed.

Winneker Leaves WCJ Allan Winneker, president and ceo of Wunderman Cato Johnson, Chicago, said last month he plans to leave the company at the end of May to “enter a new phase of my personal and professional life.”

Winneker joined WCJ in 1991 and has since “recast” the agency to bring together the promotional and direct marketing sides of the business, WCJ said in a press release.

Steve Zammarchi, who was named executive vp-managing director for WCJ Chicago in 1997, will continue in that position reporting to chairman John Bingle.

A Cause of Its Own Holliston, MA-based integrated marketing services firm W.A. Wilde Company acquired Franklin, MA-based direct marketing fundraiser L.W. Robbins Associates and will use the new unit to pursue joint marketing objectives.

“By adding Robbins Associates’ creative, marketing, and consulting skills, we will be able to offer additional services to customers who currently depend on our direct-response production technology,” president Thomas Wilde said.

All Robbins employees will be retained in their current positions, with Lee Robbins remaining president. The company will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of W.A. Wilde.

Wilde’s client list includes John Hancock, Polaroid Corp., Staples, and Fidelity.
