WOULD-BE THIEVES POSE AS DO-NOT-CALL WORKERS

As if telemarketers didn’t have it tough enough right now. The Federal Trade Commission is warning consumers that scam artists are posing as agents of the FTC’s proposed Do Not Call list and current state lists to cheat consumers.

Thieves allegedly call to verify that consumers are on the list and ask for personal data such as Social Security number, bank account number, and credit card account info that can be used for identity theft.

The FTC is still mulling a national list and is months away from implementing one (January PROMO).
