Boating supply company West Marine Inc. will buy BoatU.S. for $72 million.
BoatU.S., which has a catalog, retail stores and wholesale operations, also runs the Boat Owners association of the U.S. It will continue running the association. Retail stores will still be known by the BoatU.S. name.
West Marine, headquartered in Watsonville, CA, has a catalog, Web site and 250 retail locations in the U.S. and Canada. The acquisition of BoatU.S. will add 62 stores, and approximately $140 million in additional sales annually.
Under the agreement, West Marine will promote membership in BoatU.S. Association at each retail outlet, while the Association exclusively promotes West Marine as the preferred supplier of boating supplies.
