Victoria’s Secret Pink division has added five new universities to its Collegiate Collection and is celebrating the launch with an old fashioned sales competition.
The company expanded the line to include the following Historically Black Colleges and Universities: Florida A&M University, Howard University, Hampton University, North Carolina A&T State and Southern University. The collection features co-branded merchandise with the names and logos of the schools on Victoria’s Secret apparel. A portion of the proceeds from the products will benefit each university.
“This partnership is symbolic of Pink’s desire to be the most aspirational collegiate brand in America targeted to college age women of all ethnicities,” Richard Dent, chief operating officer of Pink, said in a statement.
To support the launch, Pink is running a competition among the five schools. Through Feb. 22, Pink will track in-store and online sales of the new HBCU Collegiate product. The school with the highest sales will receive a visit from the Pink brand at this spring.
Each week, Pink will announce which school has the highest sales online. Students can also tune in to the “Tom Joyner Morning Show” on Thursday mornings Feb. 5-26 to hear the winner of the previous week’s sales.
The company is keeping details of the school visit under wraps, but a spokesperson said the visit would likely include giveaways, music and other entertainment.
Victoria’s Secret launched its Pink Collegiate Collection last July. To date, more than 30 universities nationwide are part of the collection. The full list of schools is available. And visitors can nominate their own college or university for inclusion in the Pink Collegiate Collection. The firm plans to add the school that receives the most votes to the Holiday 2009 Pink Collegiate Collection.
