Nutritional-products company Herbalife International Inc. is being purchased by a group of venture capitalists for $685 million.
Whitney & Co. of Stamford, CT and Golden Gate Capital Inc. of San Francisco will take the company private, according to a news report.
Herbalife founder Mark Hughes died two years ago at age 44 of an accidental overdose of alcohol and a prescription antidepressant, the report said.
Some 400,000 self-employed distributors sell the nutritional products. The company posted sales of $1.7 billion last year.
