USPS Gets Fumigation Exemption for Brentwood

The U.S. Postal Service has received exemption from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, clearing the way for fumigation of the Brentwood facility.

The exemption authorizes the postal service to use chlorine dioxide to kill anthrax spores in the facility beginning Dec. 14. The facility had been contaminated by anthrax last year and has been closed since Oct. 21, 2001.

Two employees died last year after being exposed to anthrax while working at the facility, Joseph Curseen, Jr. and Thomas Morris Jr.

Meanwhile, conservative government watchdog group Judicial Watch last week requested a criminal investigation into the USPS
