Urban Outfitters Inc.’s direct-to-consumer sales for the first quarter ended April 30 were $9.5 million, a 35% increase over the $7.08 million reported for the period last year.
The Philadelphia-based cataloger and retailer posted net income for the quarter of $6.4 million, compared to $4.8 million in the first quarter of 2002. Net sales for the quarter totaled $107 million, a $12.9 million increase over the prior year quarter’s $94.07 million.
Urban Outfitters operates stores, catalogs and Web sites under the Urban Outfitters and Anthropologie brands. The company’s wholesale division Free People sells to approximately 1,100 retailers and catalogs and operates one retail store.
