U.S. Leads World in Online Purchasing: Survey

The U.S. continues to be the global leader of online purchasing and spending, according to a survey by market research firm Taylor Nelson Sofres.

Across 37 counties participating in the survey, an average 15% of Internet users made online purchases last month compared with 32% in the U.S.

In addition, the survey found that worldwide median online spending was about $100 while in the U.S. the figure was $162.

The survey also found that security still deters online buying with 40% of Americans and 30% of worldwide users feeling uncomfortable with sharing credit card information over the Web.
