Garden supplies maker U.S. Home & Garden Inc., San Francisco, will purchase for an unspecified cash amount E*Garden Inc., which owns and operates a lawn and garden Web site (http://www.egarden.com). Linda Watson, E*Garden’s founder, will stay on as president of E*Garden.
USHG will also acquire Gardenside Inc., a patio and garden furniture cataloger that has recently begun offering its products on the Internet. Gardenside’s purchase price is about $4.5 million. For calendar 1999, Gardenside’s catalog sales should be about $5 million. Founder Pamela Hawken will continue as president.
After both deals have closed, USHG will create a wholly owned e-commerce subsidiary that will house both acquisitions.
