U.K. Drinkers to Sue Alcohol Marketers

A dozen British alcoholics plan to sue drinks marketers this month, contending that marketers should have warned them against the dangers of drinking and addiction.

The test suit will challenge alcohol marketers in the same way state attorneys general in the U.S. took on tobacco companies in the late 1990s, according to press reports.

The group contends that packages should carry warning labels (as they do in the U.S.), and that they were misled by marketing that positions alcohol as sexy and trendy. The suit is expected to be filed in Edinburgh, Scotland, later this month.
