International marketers Travelocity.com, Safeway Inc. and Office Depot are each readying launches of new e-commerce Web sites.
Travelocity.com and 17 major domestic airlines will launch a new Japanese travel site, tabini.com, on March 26. Travelocity’s partners in the venture include Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways and Japan Air Systems, as well as 14 major U.S. and Asian airlines.
Safeway Inc. has debuted Safeway.com, an online grocery shopping and home delivery service in the San Francisco and San Jose, CA areas. The service will be offered through GroceryWorks, an Internet-based home shopping service 50% owned by Safeway and 35% owned by Tesco plc, a leading food retailer in the U.K. and operator of Tesco.com. The company plans to roll out to the rest of the Bay Area over the next few weeks.
Office Depot Inc. has rolled out a new Web site for its corporate customers in the Netherlands at BSDnet.officedepot.nl. Last year, the company launched a sales force in The Netherlands designed to service medium to large-size companies; the new Web site offers a channel for servicing Dutch corporate customers. The company introduced its first international corporate site last year in the United Kingdom.
