Staples Inc. had third-quarter sales of $2.83 billion, up slightly from the $2.8 billion seen in third-quarter 2000.
The Framingham, MA-based office supplies and services retailer had net income of $91.3 million, up 11% from the $86.7 million seen last year. The quarter ended Nov. 3.
The Staples Delivery business, which includes Staples Direct, Staples Contract and Quill (as well as their e-mail counterparts) had $778 million in sales, up 9% from the $715 million seen a year ago. In contrast, retail revenue fell 1%, from $1.88 to $1.85 billion.
In other news, the company has named Jevin S. Eagle as senior vice president of strategy.
