Spider-Man 2 Takes Top Licensing Award

Spider-Man Merchandising LP (Marvel Enterprises & Sony Pictures Consumer Products) won top honors last night as Spider-Man 2 was named the 2004 Overall Best License of the Year at the Annual LIMA Gala and Awards Ceremony for the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA).

The presentation, honoring the best and most creative and innovative programs and products in the worldwide licensing industry was held night at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City.

The LIMA International Licensing Excellence Awards includes seven major categories, honoring licenses from the worlds of Art, Character, Corporate, Film & Television, Sports, Retail and Promotions, as well as the Overall Best License of the Year.

In addition to its Overall Best License Award, Spider-Man 2 The Movie Promotion was also awarded the Best Promotion of the Year. Disguise, Inc. won the award for Best Film & Television Brand Licensee of the Year for Soft Goods.

Disguise, Inc. also took home the Best Character Brand Licensee of the Year for Soft Goods for their line of costumes and accessories for Care Bears; Modern Publishing won the Hard Goods award also for Care Bears. Finishing up the category, Care Bears by American Greetings, represented by The Joester Loria Group was the winner of the Best Character Brand License of the Year.

Dora the Explorer by Nickelodeon was the recipient of the Best Film & Television Brand License of the year. Fisher-Price took the Hard Goods award for its top-selling Dora’s Talking House.

In the Corporate category, Jeep by DaimlerChrysler, represented by The Joester Loria Group, was awarded the honor of License of the Year. Mead received the award for Licensee of the Year for the Scholastic Brand.

United States Playing Card Co. won the Best Sports Brand Licensee of the Year for its World Poker Tour products. The Best Art Brand License of the Year went to It’s Happy Bunny by J.K. Benton Design Studio, represented by CopCorp Licensing. Target won the Retailer of the Year Award for its SpongeBob SquarePants program.

In addition to the awards presentation, Al Kahn, chairman and CEO of 4Kids Entertainment, Inc., was inducted into the Murray Altchuler Licensing Industry Hall of Fame. Kahn was honored for his 35-year career in the licensing industry as a pioneer in identifying the hottest trends in popular culture, including Pokémon and Cabbage Patch Kids.
