Six Ways Google Could Let Mobile Search Slip Away

Google AndroidGoogle’s stranglehold on the desktop-based search market is nothing compared to its mobile search dominance. The search giant claimed 91 percent of the global mobile search market last year, according to IDC. Also, while 47 percent of search is the desktop ad market, it comprises 70 percent of the mobile ad market, which seems to point to good things for Google going forward. Nevertheless, nothing is certain forever, let alone Google’s supposed guaranteed success in the mobile search advertising market. Among the six ways Google could yield its grip on mobile search are: Microsoft makes serious progress with Windows 8 or by becoming the default search engine on the iPhone; Apple develops its own search engine; or Yahoo makes a comeback.
