A&E Television Networks, New York, has created a new division, AETN Interactive, promoting Thomas Heymann to oversee its growth in his new role as senior vice president and general manager. Heymann had been serving as vice president, AETN Enterprises, overseeing the growth of the company’s brand extensions such as Biography Magazine, with a circulation over 500,000, A&E Home Video featuring collectible VHS and DVD editions, Biography Books, CD-Roms, music CDs, new consumer catalogs, and AETN’s numerous Web sites, including Biography.com, AandE.com, and HistoryChannel.com.

R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co., New York, has elected George Stenitzer, 43, vice president of corporate communication. He previously had been director of media relations for Ameritech Corporation, headquartered in Chicago.

Federated Department Stores Inc., Cincinnati, has announced that Michael Steinberg, 71, will retire as chairman and CEO of its San Francisco-based Macy’s West division effective Feb. 1. Steinberg will remain as a special consultant to Federated, reporting to Terry J. Lundgren, the company’s president and chief merchandising officer.
