It never takes long for the swindlers to come out of the woodwork and victimize the charitable once disaster strikes.
New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani warned consumers this morning that fraudulent telemarketers are soliciting donations for non-existent disaster relief funds.
The fraudulent parties had not been identified and many never will be, Kevin Brosnahan, a spokesman for the American Teleservices Association (ATA) said.
The ATA issued a press release denouncing the solicitations and outlining guidelines for consumers to follow during any phone solicitation.
