Rule Change Proposed to Speed Up Mail Processing, Delivery

The U.S. Postal Service is seeking mailer comments by Jan. 21 on a proposed rule change that would speed up the processing and delivery of Standard A and B advertising mail.

Under the proposed change, standing appointments for mailers to enter mail at Destination Delivery Units (DDU’s) would be changed to once a week from once a month.

This proposed change, resulting from an increase in the amount of Standard B Mail dropped off at the wrong DDU facility over the past year, was recommended by the Mailer’s Technical Advisory Committee.

The USPS also seeks to require mailers provide mail acceptance personnel with the five-digit Zip code of their mailing’s destination to before their scheduled appointment. That, they said, will ensure that the mail is being deposited at the correct facility.
