Revenue, Net Loss Grows for 1-800-Flowers.com

Westbury, NY-based 1-800-Flowers.com, formerly 1-800-Flowers, had fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $123.3 million, up 34% from $92.2 million a year ago. But the company’s net loss widened from $12.9 million from $3.4 million.

For the full year, the company had revenue of $385.3 million, up from $295.9 million. But the company had a net loss for the year of $66.8 million, up from 12.1 million in the previous year. The quarter and the year ended July 2.

The company’s online revenue amounted to $47.5 million, or 39% of the total net revenue, in the fourth quarter. This compares with $22.6 million, or 25%, in the previous year’s fourth quarter.

Inbound telemarketing amounted to $67.7 million, or 55% of the company’s revenue, in the fourth quarter, compared with $57.6 million, or 63%, in the previous fourth quarter.

The company said that its customer base stands at more than 9 million customers, of whom 1.5 million placed orders during the quarter most recently ended. Of those, approximately 43% were repeat customers.

The company expects to have positive earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization by the fourth quarter of its 2001 fiscal year, chairman and CEO Jim McCann said in a statement accompanying the financial results.
