Tampax Cheerleader Battle

P&G courts teen athletes online by sponsoring a cheerleading competition on social networking site Takkle.com. Entrants submit videos of their best cheers. Takkle will choose 10 finalists to post on the site for members to vote; the top vote-getter wins a $10,000 gift card (funded by Tampax) redeemable at online specialty retailer America’s Best Cheer and Dance. The winning squad also will be featured on Takkle.com for one month. The contest runs through May 18. It’s the first in a series of “battle” competitions the site will stage with brand sponsors.

Crazy Hair Contest

Snip-its, the hair salon for youngsters, is on the hunt for photos of the cutest kids up to age 12 with the wackiest hairdos. Pictures can be submitted in-store or at www.Snipits.com through April 22. The promotion is part of Snip-its’ partnership with The Picture People. Five grand-prize winners will receive a portrait session and a free haircut and hair care products. Winners will be selected May 15 and featured on the Web site.

Go Backstage with Switchfoot

Teen shop Mandee has rolled out an in-store promotion with Columbia Records to support the latest album release by rock group Switchfoot, Oh! Gravity. Fans can enter to win a grand-prize trip to see the show, backstage passes to meet the band and a $200 Mandee gift card. The sweeps is available in-store or at www.Mandee.com. Under the campaign, customers can listen to new audio tracks and watch videos the band recorded. The promotion runs through April 14.
